How does the matching criteria work?

We use a set of techniques to determine potential matches that are based on an initial set of search criteria including name, date of birth, and nationality/jurisdiction where these are available. The matching logic uses a set of natural language processing techniques including string distance matching where we analyse the distance between matching words and characters in order to arrive at a percentage likelihood of a match. Our default threshold setting in Themis Search is set to 40% and not currently configurable as we see this provides the best user experience today. However, this as with all things is constantly reviewed.

Looking forward to the introduction of customer monitoring, where you may wish to load many clients into the system in one go, then this matching threshold will be configurable to suit the needs of the particular customer. Once a match is identified the customer will only receive alerts in the case that the status of their matched client changes.
